Do you enjoy working with others in a team? Do you want to develop new skills? Would you like to volunteer alongside NHS staff at one of London’s busiest hospitals?

We have two exciting opportunities for you to volunteer at Charing Cross Hospital or Hammersmith Hospital this Autumn as part of our Youth Volunteering Programme.

Charing Cross Hospital is on Fulham Palace Road in Hammersmith, a short walk from Hammersmith Broadway.

Hammersmith Hospital is on Du Cane Road between East Acton and White City.

Working alongside Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, we have developed this role for 16 to 21 year-olds.

If you can give a minimum of 2 hours a week, between September 2022 to April 2023

You need to have reached your 16th birthday by Sunday 28th August 2022, to join this intake.

Due to the popularity of the programme, we will be prioritising applications from individuals who live within the following postcode areas:

For Hammersmith Hospital: NW10, NW2, NW26, NW6, SW1P, W10, W11, W12, W14, W2, W3, W4, W5, W6, W8, W9, WC1E, WC2H

For Charing Cross Hospital: SW10, SW13, SW14, SW15, SW18, SW1P, SW3, SW5, SW6, SW7, SW9, W10, W11, W12, W14, W2, W3, W4, W6, W8, W9, WC2H

Our Volunteers Selection and Appointment Process for this role – IMPORTANT, PLEASE READ

  • We will review and shortlist all applications received, applicants who meet what we are looking for will be invited to one of our volunteer selection events on the following dates:

  • Selection events will be held across the week 8th August 2022.

  • You will be required to attend a selection event to be considered to volunteer with us.

  • You need to have reached your 16th birthday by Sunday 28 August 2022 to join this intake.

  • We run volunteer selection events to give us a chance to meet potential new volunteers and for them to meet us and see what we do. We make them fun and informative. Roles will be offered to suitable applicants. We receive high numbers of applications for this programme and attendance at a selection event does not guarantee being offered a place to volunteer.

  • The Volunteering Department will take up two satisfactory references, and will process a DBS disclosure application for you, which we require prior to any new volunteer starting with us. If you are 16 or 17, one of your references must be from a parent/guardian. Please check the list of required documents to complete a DBS check to ensure that you have access to all of them if you are successful. We will not be able to progress your application if we cannot submit a DBS application for you by Monday 5 September 2022

  • Upon receipt of satisfactory references and DBS check, the Volunteering Department will arrange for you to attend a Core Training day ahead of your start date with us. This core training is essential before you can start volunteering. You will find the dates for Core Training below.

Key dates in our volunteer journey for this role:

Application open for recruitment: Monday 13 June to Sunday 17 July 2022

Selection events You must be able to attend a selection event during week commencing 8th August, so please check your availability when applying.

DBS /reference checks: Monday 15 August until Monday 5 September You need to come into the hospital for us to process your DBS application.

Core Training: 10 or 11 September 17 or 18 September You must attend one of these dates for a whole day. (09.30 – 16.30)

Volunteering: w/c 19 September until w/c 27 April.

You will be assigned to a ward, where you will volunteer for the six month period, there will also be a period of break during the mid/late December for the Christmas period.
